How to Install a Googles reCAPTCHA on Your WordPress Website

A CAPTCHA is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human or not. It's commonly used on websites to prevent automated bots from performing actions like creating accounts, sending spam, or accessing sensitive information.

Please see below how you can install Google reCaptcha on your WordPress website.

Prerequisites

• Requires a Google account.

Retrieving your API key pair.

1. Register your website/sign up for an API key pair with Google. 
   • Ensure you are logged into your Google account.
   • Follow this link to complete/retrieve your API key pair: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create
2.  Complete the form and click Submit.
   
   • Label - Enter the name of your website/domain.
   • reCaptcha - The type of reCaptcha you want on your website.
     • We recommend choosing the v2 option and selecting the 'I'm not a robot' checkbox method.
   • Domains - The domain name you want the reCaptcha to install on.
   • Project Name - Any name you can use to identify the project. Required to use their service.
3. Copy and save the Site key and the Secret key. Do not get them mixed up, as you will require this later on.
   

Installing Google reCaptcha plugin and configuration.

1. Log into the backend of your WordPress site.
   
2. Head to Plugins on the left-hand panel.
   
3. Click on Add New Plugin.
   
4. Search for Google Recaptcha in the search bar, look for the Advanced Google reCaptcha by WebFactory Ltd and click Install Now.
   
5. Once it has been installed, click Activate.
   
6. Back on the Plugins tab, click on Settings under the Advanced Google reCAPTCHA.
   
7. Under the Captcha tab, fill out the following settings and click Save Changes.
   
   
   • Captcha - From the Dropdown box, select the type of Captcha you wish to use. This depends on the Google Captcha selected from retrieving your API Key pair.
   • Captcha Site Key - The Site Key is retrieved from creating the API Keypair.
   • Captcha Secret Key - The Secret Key is retrieved from creating the API Keypair.
