How to configure SMTP in Joomla

Configuring your website to send with SMTP will significantly increase the delivery of your emails.

Follow these steps to configure SMTP in your Joomla website.

  1. Log into your Joomla backend.

  2. Access the System settings

  3. Under the Setup section, click on Global Configuration.

  4. Scroll down to the Mail settings.

    • Change the mailer option in the dropdown list to SMTP
    • Proceed to fill in the remainder of the form
      • From Email/Name - Email/Name that appears in the From field.
      • Reply To Email/Name - Email/Name you want to set as the reply-to when recipients respond.
      • SMTP Host - The hostname of your SMTP server. (Your email provider will provide this setting)
      • SMTP Port - Typically, the port is set to 465 for SSL or 587 for TLS.
      • SMTP Security - Select SSL if you use port 465 or 587 for TLS.
      • Enable SMTP Authentication.
  5. Scroll back to the top of the page and click the Save button.
