Need to redirect a domain to another website? There are several ways to set this up, and you do not always need a hosting plan to do it. This guide explains your options.
Do I Need a Hosting Plan for a Redirect?
Not necessarily. While a hosting plan gives you the most flexibility, there are options for redirecting a domain even without one:
- With a hosting plan - set up redirects via cPanel or
.htaccessrules. This gives you full control over redirect types, paths, and conditions. - Without a hosting plan - we can configure a DNS-level or web server redirect for your registered domain. Contact support and we will set this up for you.
Types of Redirects
| Redirect Type | When to Use |
|---|---|
| 301 (Permanent) | The domain has permanently moved. Search engines will update their index. Best for most cases. |
| 302 (Temporary) | A short-term redirect. Search engines keep the original URL indexed. Use for temporary campaigns or maintenance. |
Setting Up a Redirect in cPanel
If you have a hosting plan with cPanel access, you can set up redirects yourself:
- Log in to cPanel.
- Navigate to Domains > Redirects.
- Choose the redirect type (301 or 302).
- Select the domain and enter the destination URL.
- Click Add to save.
